BACKSTORY: Who remembers, "Who Framed Roger Rabbit"? If you've noticed that some characters shouldn't exist in the the film's time period, the anachronism was intentional--
some characters needed to wait for their big "break".
Crawford W. was a support character in the production of animated films-- sometimes as a cameraman, an assistant to cater to actor's requests, and luckily as the lead man in production once.
His "big break" was scheduled around the late '70s. He was busy with productions prior then. Unfortunately, the demand for animation in the industry declined in an alarming rate during the period (see: The Dark Age Of Animation), so his role never came to be and the demand for services from him was deemed "unnecessary". So they fired him.
Put off by the lack of interest in cartoons anymore (and a lack of reason why), Crawford decides to move to a small town that sits between the city and the mountain-sides. To start a new life, I'm not sure. He must have done that plenty of times during his run.
But he had one idea is his mind: He wants to tell stories. Maybe even a story... so inspiring, it could create a jump-start, hopefully, even an interest in animation again. (But that's a silly idea!)
Unbeknownst to the events or choices of action happening around him or because of him, it's caused a group of seemingly unrelated people (they don't know each other) in his neighbourhood to come together.
...And so the basis of this story begins. It's "A Funny Story", actually!
Story/Character BIOS----------- Crawford is a main character who acts like a support type, not an actor type. He's born/conceived near the end of silent animation so is usually/unusually silent. He still runs a very big part of the show. Heck, the show wouldn't exist without him.
Think "Chell" from Portal, "Gordon Freeman" from Half-Life, "You" from Persona 4 or (everyone you play as) from Pokemon series.
At the first half of the show, he seems very introverted but begins to start expressing himself and communicating with others very well-- showing the confidence or talent that once was/is.
Meets "Bucker" Roo, a journalist around town because of "a funny story".
His humour is based off pantomime, malapropisms, advice, recovery (saving himself from blunders using wit and experience), switching ideas and words at last minute, situational humor, references/homages and even being a wisecrack (which ends up bringing more trouble).
Likes whimsy, funny background events and horribly directed movies to entertain himself.
Is aware of the fourth wall (and you). Pocket is optional. Lives here:
=3 I read all this ( I'm serious ALL) and I consider this a big big inspirational story, I hope one day U can show it to all the world..Crawford will be a mega animation star, I bet it Keep wonking on this funny mega-story !
I love how well written, imaginative, and cute Crawford's story is. Another thing I like is the homepage to the old cartoons. Great Work! / I didn't notice this before, but do I see a little Chuck Jones influence in the character design??
Thanks a lot! I was inspired by Hanna Barbera and "The Ricky Gervais Show" in making this. + I draw Crawford a lot since I'm STILL indecisive about his looks.
(I've only finalized it after drawing this but I was like MEH then couldn't be stuffed fixing it)
Keep wonking on this funny mega-story !
Thank you, thank you!
You're improving too much, man.
Also, this background is really nice!
I like Crawford too, he's changed quite a few times. Love the way his fur is like a suit
You've gotten much better at drawing hands now, too!
